Makes one loaf

Surprise Date Nut Bread

3/4 c boiling water
1/2 lb dates, chopped
1 3/4 c sifted all purpose flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 c dark brown sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 c shredded cheese
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 c chopped nuts

Pour water over dates. Let stand five minutes. Sift together flour, soda, salt and sugar.
Add dates, egg, cheese, vanilla and nuts. Mix well. Pour into greased 9 1/2 x 5 1/4 x 2 3/4 loaf pan.
Bake 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes Remove from pan. Cool.
